"...Thank you for making a difference..."

What is Hypnosis?

Opinions vary on the exact definition, but you can be sure that it is a natural state of mind.

First of all, contrary to what you may believe, hypnosis is not always a trance state or a sleep state even though a person in hypnosis may seem to be sleeping. Hypnosis is really natural state which is an important part of everyday life. Whenever your mind wanders, daydreams or is focused on something - such as reading a book, driving a familiar route, watching a film - you are in a state of hypnosis.

Brain scans on people in hypnosis show that brain wave activity moves from a Beta state to an Alpha state and sometimes a Theta state, similar to the pattern of brain activity during meditation.

What is Hypnotherapy?

As mentioned above, hypnosis is a state you find yourself in almost every day.

Hypnotherapy is a therapy that uses this hypnotic state to make positive changes in the way you think, feel, focus and act in order to achieve your goals. A skilled Hypnotherapist is someone who is trained to enable you to enter a hypnotic state and make the changes you require to achieve your aims.

Do I Give Up Control of Myself When I'm Hypnotised?

Think about this for a moment. Do you give up control of your mind to someone else when you read a book or watch a film?

In situations like this, when you're fully absorbed in something, you are actually in a hypnotic trance although you still have the power to emerge from it if you want. So, remember that you always have the power to resist when something or someone hypnotises you - always.

Now, you may be concerned about hypnosis after seeing people on TV or stage shows being hypnotized and asked to do unusual things such as barking like a dog, clucking like a chicken or quacking like a duck... or other similar (embarassing) things that you might find alarming.

Well, just remember that this is done purely for entertainment. It has nothing to do with conventional uses of hypnosis. What you also must realise is that people attending these performances expect that kind of entertainment so the participants behave in the way that is expected of them. People who agree to go on stage know that they might be asked to do something unusual and entertaining, so it is easy for the hypnotist to get them to do what they already expect to do.

What you really must know is that  you can use hypnosis to succeed  quite safely to get the things you really want for yourself - and the focus of your hypnotherapy sessions with me will be to do exactly that.

As you realize that only you are in control, you can decide how deeply into hypnosis you wish to go, and then  you can use the power of hypnosis to succeed in achieving your goals. A hypnotherapist is your guide and helps you on your journey, but the change can only be made by you - and only if you want it.

How Does Hypnosis Feel?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. People are often surprised that during a hypnotherapy session they hear every word and can get up and walk out of the room at any moment. Unless you enter a deeper state, you may not feel any different... just very relaxed.

It’s similar to drifting off to sleep at night... you know, those moments when you are not quite awake and not quite asleep. You may feel weightless or heavy as all your muscles relax. Everyone experiences it differently and m
ost people are surprised at just how relaxing it is.

What Can Hypnosis be Used to Treat?

Hypnosis can be used to help treat a wide range of issues such as:
  • Fears and phobias
  • Habits such as smoking, gambling, drinking too much or over-eating and many more
  • Physical conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, skin conditions and migraines
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Panic attacks
  • Tinnitus
  • Fertility
  • Insomnia
  • Lack of confidence
  • Pain management
  • Improving performance at work or in sport
  • Improving birth outcomes

What Happens in a Hypnosis Session?

To start with I will take detailed history and with some conditions may request permission from you to write to your doctor, to let them know you are having hypnotherapy.

I will then discuss your goal and what you would like to see or feel at the end of your sessions.

Using a range of different techniques I will get you to relax, make you feel comfortable and work with you towards achieving your goal.

After a session you may feel uplifted, lighter and very relaxed. Often change is very subtle, as I will be working with your subconscious mind, and you may just notice a very positive shift in how you are feeling.
